Goethe University Frankfurt is one of the largest universities in Germany offering a wide spectrum of disciplines and committed to providing excellent conditions for academic teaching and research, as well as a continuous dialogue with society. It has approximately 41,000 students, 6000 PhD students and 640 professors in 16 faculties covering natural and life sciences as well as the humanities and socio-economic sciences. Embedded in a metropolitan area of considerable economic strength, with a sizeable international population and a cosmopolitan spirit, the University covers a wide range of subjects.

At Goethe University are approx. 6100 teacher students. The academy of educational research and teacher education (ABL) is the central equipment of the teacher education at the Goethe university. Here relevant issues of the teacher education are organized. The professional qualification of the teacher students in the several disciplines and the special knowledge about learning in these disciplines takes place in the according faculties.

The teacher training in the domain of music is carried out at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. Thereby future teachers, which have elected music as one subject, study in the different teaching profession courses at two institutions, Goethe University Frankfurt and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (Partner HfMDK [P3] of the EMP-Maths Project). Both institutions cooperate in the domain of teacher education.
